This is a rare poster, in that the artist, Terence Cuneo, is more known for his posters depicting steam trains. Here the rail company LNER got Cuneo to lure passengers to Essex with its beautiful rural settings.


Essex, a county to the north-east of London owes its name to the Anglo-Saxon period of the early middle ages. The old English being “Eastseaxe” or East-Saxons.
